Entry #8 Surrogacy?

If you’re a female this question is for you! Have you ever considered surrogacy? Surrogacy is a reproductive arrangement where a female carries and delivers a baby for an individual or couple wanting children. There are 2 types of surrogacies including traditional meaning where the surrogate is genetically related to the unborn fetus then there is gestational surrogacy involves the implantation of an embryo created through in vitro fertilization (IVF) into the surrogate mother's uterus. Meaning there is no connection between the surrogate or the fetus she carries. Surrogacy is a viable option for individuals or couples who cannot carry a child themselves due to medical conditions or medical risks. According to Conceive Abilities “Surrogacy is rapidly growing as a way to grow families. In 2019, surrogates were part of 5.4% of all in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures in 2019. Why? Surrogacy is the most successful treatment for infertility, with a 75% success rate. That number can increase as high as 95% for a birth once the gestational carrier is pregnant” (Conceive Abilities). Now that we have some background information on why people choose to go through surrogacy, why do some females choose to be surrogates? Well, there is many reasons. For one many women do it because they probably know someone who struggles to conceive a child and they would like to help them. Another reason can be the amount they get paid. They can get paid up to $100,000 for one delivery of a child! Surrogates get paid monthly from the first month of pregnancy! On the American Surrogacy site  https://www.americansurrogacy.com/surrogate/are-surrogates-paid-monthly#:~:text=Are%20Surrogates%20Paid%20Monthly%3F,the%20first%20month%20of%20pregnancy. there is a price break down on how and when they get paid! Overall surrogacy does coke with challenges including ethical concerns, financial implications, and potential emotional complexities for all parties involved. However, it is truly up to the surrogate to determine the best decision for them and why they do it.
