Entry #7 FRESH

Do you ever wonder where your food comes from? I ask myself this question every time I go into the grocery store or a restaurant. I recently watched a documentary "Fresh" that covered this topic.

The film goes into depth of how our food is made. They highlighted key points in the film such as the importance of local fresh farms, health impacts and sustainable agriculture. In the Fresh the documentary explains how food production and consumption have changed throughout the years. One quote that stood out to me was how they explain how the production of food changed the whole nutritional value, “If you look at fresh produce grown in 1950 and compare it nutritionally with fresh produce grown today you will find that the amounts of key nutrient’s, minerals, vitamins have diminished by 40%” (FRESH 2009).  They explain this in the documentary because they see the farmers have industrialized how we produce our food and evidently made it cheaper but, it does have this negative effect. The Purpose of the film was to point out the importance of sustainable food production and encourage the viewers to think twice about what food they eat and where they purchase it from. As a viewer this film encourage me to rethink where I get my food.

Overall, “FRESH” aims to inspire the audience to truly think about where and how they get their food. To become more concerned about their health. This will help with my ease on concerns I have when eating out. Thanks for reading!

  1. Hello Lis. I enjoyed reading your post. I did not catch in the documentary that it stated that the nutritional value of foods has gone down by that much. That is kind of scary. I agree, learning about all of these things has made me rethink what I want to eat and how I want to approach buying food.
